theyll put a liquor store on every corner
of every neighborhood thats poor
along with cheap food, dollar menus
no nutritional value

so we'll numb our brains and clog our veins
and waste away while we stay their slaves
and what do you expect with a minimum wage
that doesn't cover the cost of living?

and what do you expect with the ads we see
that tell us to smoke and drink and buy everything?

note: this is NOT to shame people who use drugs or alcohol, or that consume what are known to be unhealthy foods. It is to acknowledge that people have used these things as a weapon against the people, starting with the indigenous folks who were here before this land was invaded by settlers, who brought with them disease, alcohol, poverty, and extreme violence and genocide. Also dividing and ruining the land with agriculture depleting natural food sources and making the water unsafe to drink. they want the poor to stay poor and struggle too much to stay afloat to rise up.
